FOAMULAR® FLASHSEALR® | Owens Corning Insulation Skip to Main Content

Owens Corning® FlashSealR® Foam Board Flashing Tape is an acrylic polyolefin flashing tape that helps to provide effective protection against air infiltration and water penetration. FlashSealR® Tape is self-adhering without the aid of primers and designed to be applicable in cold temperatures.

Features

  • Thin and flexible to seal around penetrations and uneven surfaces
  • Aggressive adhesive; long-term adhesion, strength and handle-ability
  • Low application temperatures (-18 °C / (0 °F))
  • Remains flexible and elastomeric allowing it to move with building components
  • Compatible with XPS insulation and other materials, see CCMC
    No. 14003-R
  • Water and air resistive barrier material

Applications

  • Recommend for sealing the joints around sills, jambs, and heads of windows, and doors adjacent to FOAMULAR® NGX® products
  • Recommended for sealing around wall protrusions and interruptions.

Installation Instructions

Deliver products in their original packages and store in conditions of 16-27 °C (60-80 °F) and 40-60% relative humidity in the original carton.

See CABS report 12935-R and CCMC report 14003-R for details for weatherproofing around openings and penetrations through exterior walls. See Owens Corning publication “CodeBord® Air Barrier System” (Pub. No. 500637) for further information.

For best adhesion, the tape should be applied over the foam sheathing at the time the sheathing is installed.

  1. Substrate surfaces should be smooth, clea, dry, and free of contaminates. Remove any contaminants or debris from the substrate surface prior to application. For optimal adhesion to foam substrates, FlashSealR® Foam Flashing Tape should be installed at the same time the foam sheathing is installed.
  2. Cut the FlashSealR® Foam Flashing Tape into the required lengths. The length required is the length of the opening to be sealed plus two times the width of the flashing tape being used.
  3. Always install FlashSealR® Foam Flashing Tape in shingle fashion. Meaning you will always start at the bottom of the opening and work your way up.
  4. Peel back a small portion of the release paper sheet. Align tape according to where it will be placed. Press the exposed adhesive portion of the tape firmly into place.
  5. Continue the installation by removing the release liner while applying firm pressure to the flashing tape as it comes into contact with the surface it is adhering to. Continue until piece is completely adhered.
  6. Using a roller (rubber, wood or steel “J” roller) apply sufficient pressure along the entire tape surface to ensure intimate contact between tape and substrate to eliminate any air trapped beneath the tape.
  7. Always overlap a distance equal to the width of the tape. All horizontal overlaps should be in a lapped, or shingled application, so that any liquid water traveling down the housewrap or sheathing is continuously directed to the outside of the wall assembly.
  8. To obtain best performance, use this product within 24 months from date of manufacture.
