Opening doors to hope in Charlotte
The Charlotte Doors team has been named Owens Corning’s 2025 Team Volunteer of the Year, recognized for their commitment to service and their impact on the Charlotte community and beyond.
Throughout the year, the team has dedicated time, energy, and heart to a wide range of volunteer efforts, with a special focus on housing and shelter.
The Charlotte facility produces doors for the North American residential housing market and services markets in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.
The work employees there have done with the Salvation Army Center of Hope in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been especially impactful. The team regularly cooked and served meals to the shelter’s residents, painted hallways to uplift spirits, and donated essential items like food, pillows, and school supplies through the “Help People Walk Through Walls” grant. The Center of Hope serves an average of 275 women and children, providing over 293,000 meals annually.
Volunteer honorees are given the opportunity to direct a $15,000 donation from the Owens Corning Foundation to the charity of their choice. The Charlotte team has selected the Salvation Army Center of Greater Charlotte as the recipient.
The Owens Corning Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and holds a pivotal role in our mission to enhance lives through charitable contributions. The foundation supports Owens Corning’s stakeholder communities across the U.S. and globally through strategic partnerships. Additionally, it fosters employee engagement through various programs designed to encourage volunteerism and charitable giving.
Beyond the shelter, the Charlotte Doors team has sorted food donations at Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, which distributes over 54 million pounds of food across 24 counties in North and South Carolina.
They also packed over 14,000 meals for malnourished children through Feed the Hunger, Inc., helping feed 61 children for an entire year.
