Modernizing stone wool operations in Europe

Owens Corning manufactures energy-efficient stone wool insulation products in Europe, serving non-residential building and technical applications through its PAROC® offering. Built on advanced technology, technical expertise, and disciplined execution, the business continues to strengthen how it serves customers while improving the efficiency and sustainability of its operations.

That progress is visible at the company’s Hällekis plant in Sweden, where Owens Corning is converting from coke-fired furnaces to electric melting. The project includes the addition of an electric melter, along with enhanced raw materials handling and filtration processes. By switching to electric melting, the Hällekis facility is expected to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 80%, supporting the company’s long-term sustainability goals.

The new electric melting capability is scheduled to be commissioned in early 2027 – improving manufacturing efficiency, reducing emissions, and helping meet European customers’ needs.
