HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT ROOF COLOR FOR YOUR HOME
Hi, I’m Erin, and I’m a roof geek. It might sound funny, but I truly believe that a home’s roof just doesn’t get the love it deserves. We spend so much time picking the perfect shutter color or the right front door, but the roof is often overlooked. It’s the biggest missed opportunity I see in exterior design, and I wish more folks were as geeked up about a new roof as I am.
WHY CHOOSING A ROOF COLOR CAN FEEL OVERWHELMING
Choosing a roof color can feel overwhelming if you don't know where to start. I get it, the roof is a big investment. It’s up there for decades, and it’s not something you can easily change if you regret the choice later.
That’s why getting it right the first time really matters. I want you to feel the same joy and confidence picking your roof color as you do picking a paint color, wall art, or fabric for a sofa.
So often, we get comfortable with standard grays and blacks without realizing what a powerful impact the right shingle can have on the entire look and feel of a home. There are so many wonderful choices out there now, so remember you don’t have to settle for the color your roof is now.

There’s something so peaceful and natural about this color, no wonder it’s the 2026 Shingle Color of the Year.
It’s a gorgeous blend of deep greens and subtle grays, with stunning pops of teal.
I would use Evergreen Mist on classic cottages, Craftsman-style homes, or any house that’s nestled among trees. It’s the perfect complement to a creamy white exterior and can connect the home to its natural surroundings in such a beautiful, organic way.
Now this color has some real character.
It’s got all the warmth and richness of its namesake, with these deep coppery browns and ambers that flicker in the sunlight.
It is the perfect companion for an old soul — a historic brick home, a grand Tudor, or any house that needs a warm, distinguished hug.
If you want to make a statement, Merlot is your color.
It’s a deep, dramatic red with dark, shadowy undertones that feels so rich and a little bit romantic.
It reminds me of the heavy slate on an old European manor house. This color can bring out the warmth in stone or light-colored brick, and pairs well with a white trim and navy blue shutters. It’s a dynamic color that really changes with the light and can make a home feel truly special.
