Commitment to talent development takes trust and collaboration
Owens Corning’s development programs are designed to nurture exceptional talent and foster a culture of collaboration. The company is focused on creating an environment where every team member can thrive. And that sets it apart from its peers in the industry, according to one of its manufacturing site leaders.
Roofing manufacturing site leader MaryBeth Tran (pictured above) said her experience with development programs at Owens Corning has made a significant difference in her career, and she emphasized a fundamental principle that distinguishes the company.
“Our programs are set up very well. In addition to that, I think that the company culture is what makes it different,” MaryBeth said. “A company can have a development program, but people can still not feel invested. At Owens Corning, I felt like a priority. I’ve had peers at other companies that don’t feel that sense of belonging that I have here.
“I just immediately felt like this was the right cultural fit for me,” she said.
MaryBeth is a 2014 graduate of Purdue in material science engineering. She was an intern the year before she graduated, saying she was drawn by Owens Corning’s iconic brand from a list of about 400 companies at a career fair.
She enrolled in the Manufacturing Leadership Program (MLP) and later transitioned to the Furnace Development Program (FDP) after having the opportunity to participate in a furnace rebuild – a key experience because of her interest in the science of glass melting.
Owens Corning’s development programs are designed to ensure that every team member, from early-career engineers to seasoned professionals, is equipped with the tools and support they need to excel. The company emphasizes the importance of hands-on experience and learning from those who know the job best – all of that contributing to Owens Corning being a great (and safe) place to work.
