OC Lumber turns contractor relationships into community impact
Caring for our communities is an Owens Corning (OC) core value that starts with its employees and is shared by many of its customers.
In the early summer of 2025, OC Lumber formed the 14-member Pro Build Team with a vision to create an independent contractor advisory panel to provide unbiased opinions and feedback to shape the offerings Owens Corning provides to contractors. The team was modeled after the company’s industry-leading work with its Platinum Preferred Roofing contractors and reflects Owens Corning’s outstanding commercial strength.
The Pro Build Team represents both residential deck building and marine-grade construction applications – key product uses of OC Lumber - across diverse geographies and backgrounds. Owens Corning leaders knew this group would add value but never imagined the impact the contractor network could have outside of the business.
The reality was that the Pro Build Team proved the power of caring, commitment, and collaboration, mobilizing to help an injured father.
In May 2025, a Minnesota man, a husband and father to a young family, was electrocuted and severely injured in a work-related accident. The father of two suffered a burst fracture to the spine leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. He was scheduled to be discharged from the hospital at the end of July, but his Minnesota home was not wheelchair accessible.
The Minnesota-based Pro Build Team members reached out to Casey Ingle, the strategic marketing director for OC Lumber. Dan Pettit of Northern Outdoor Living had already committed to donating his time to construct an ADA-compliant ramp but needed people, products, and a plan.
“It was a moment for Owens Corning to do what Owens Corning does – whatever it takes to support our contractors, our community, and to do the right thing,” said Casey. “It demonstrates our company’s unparalleled commercial strength in an amazing way.”
The project required materials from all three OC Lumber product lines: structural framing, decking, and fascia. Casey collaborated with partners and shipping resources to ensure everything needed for the build was secured and delivered before the man was home from the hospital. The Pro Build Team and Owens Corning responded to help create a safe, secure, and permanent ramped entryway – all in about five days.
“Being a part of the Pro Build Team has been life changing for me and my team, said Jeremy Wilkins, of Deck VanGogh in South Carolina, “The partnership has opened up countless opportunities of ways for me and my team to connect with other amazing people around the country – people who share our passion about various elements of the construction industry and making our communities better.”
