PINK® Fiberglas™ Sonobatts®

PINK® Fiberglas™ Sonobatts® assist with sound and thermal performance in suspended ceiling applications, particularly in interior commercial insulation systems. Owens Corning PINK® Fiberglas™ Insulation with PureFiber® Technology is a preformed, flexible fiberglass insulation material. It is produced in R-values of 11 and 19, with thicknesses of 3.5 inches and 6.25 inches. Sized to fit over standard ceiling tiles, Sonobatts® are fiberglass insulation batts that help reduce room-to-room sound transmission and contribute to occupant comfort in offices, classrooms, and similar commercial spaces.

Key Benefits of Sonobatts Insulation:

  • Effective Acoustics: Sound absorption helps reduce noise between rooms.
  • Standard Fit: Sized 2 ft x 4 ft to lay directly over standard ceiling tiles.
  • Easy Handling: Low dust, with excellent stiffness and recovery for smooth installation.
  • Manageable Transport: Compression packaging simplifies handling and job site storage.
  • Facing Options: Available unfaced or with a Kraft vapor retarder to meet project needs.
  • Thermal Performance: Can support energy efficiency in ceiling systems.
  • Noncombustible: Meets ASTM E136 (unfaced) and other code compliances.

2 - The surface burning characteristics of EcoTouch® Insulation were derived from products tested in accordance with ASTM E84. This standard is used solely to measure and describe properties of products in response to heat and flame under controlled laboratory conditions, and should not be used to describe or approve the fire hazard of materials under actual fire conditions. However, the results of these tests may be used as elements of a fire risk assessment that takes into account all of the factors pertinent to an assessment of the fire hazard of a particular end use. Values are reported to the nearest five rating.

Applications

This fiberglass batt insulation product is designed for use in suspended ceiling systems, such as those commonly found in schools, offices, and healthcare facilities. These insulation batts are installed directly over ceiling panels to help reduce noise transfer from one room to another, thereby supporting acoustic performance in shared interior spaces. Sonobatts® are also ideal for renovation projects where upgrading finished attics for ceiling acoustics and thermal efficiency is a priority.

Sonobatts® contribute to interior acoustics by absorbing sound in the ceiling plenum, the space above the ceiling tiles but below the ceiling, often used for air circulation, lighting, and wiring. In multi-story buildings, they also assist with sound control between floors by dampening airborne noise that would otherwise travel through the ceiling assembly. This sound-dampening makes these fiberglass insulation batts a practical solution for commercial environments where both interior ceiling-level and floor-to-floor sound management are needed.
