Thermafiber® RainBarrier® mineral wool insulation is a semi-rigid insulation board designed to fit between cladding attachment elements such as masonry ties, girts, and clip & rail systems. This product forms around most attachment elements without cutting or notching. This semi-rigid mineral wool insulation supports continuous thermal performance by fitting around fasteners without added cuts or gaps.

Performance Attributes

Thermafiber® RainBarrier® semi-rigid insulation is designed to meet the key demands of exterior wall systems. It is non-combustible and helps support fire-resistant wall designs. This rain barrier insulation helps reduce heat loss, contributing to improved energy efficiency and maintaining more consistent indoor temperatures. These mineral wool insulation boards are also vapor permeable and absorb very little moisture, which helps walls stay dry while allowing trapped vapor to escape. The material resists corrosion and mold, remains stable at high temperatures, and complies with common performance standards for moisture, fire, and air barrier compatibility.

Thermafiber® RainBarrier® semi-rigid insulation products are designed to function in wall systems that include a gap behind the exterior panels to help manage water and improve thermal performance. These mineral wool boards provide continuous insulation, meaning they create a consistent barrier that helps keep heat in and moisture out. These semi-rigid mineral wool insulation products are often used in high-rise offices, education and healthcare facilities, and other commercial buildings. All Thermafiber® RainBarrier® products are non-combustible and compatible with common wall ties, adhesives, and air barrier systems. For open joint façades and rainscreen construction, RainBarrier® Dark™ is available with a black veil that provides camouflaging.
