What is FSK insulation?

FSK insulation, also known as Foil-Scrim-Kraft insulation, is a type of faced insulation that features a reinforced foil facing to improve foil facing that meets Flame Spread/Smoke Developed rating to be left exposed. FSK faced insulation is insulation that has a facing on one side that is used to provide a vapor retarder and may be used to secure the insulation into the cavity. FSK stands for foil, scrim, and kraft, which refers to the combination of aluminum foil, fiberglass scrim (a reinforcing mesh that adds strength and durability), and kraft paper. This combination creates a durable facing for the fiberglass insulation that helps resist water vapor and fire.
