Performance Attributes

Thermafiber® RainBarrier® Dark™ is a mineral wool insulation product designed for wall systems where insulation sits between the building’s structure and an outer layer of panels, known as cladding. In cavity walls, this space improves thermal efficiency and lets moisture drain safely away from the building. Rainscreens take this a step further by allowing air to circulate behind the cladding to help the wall dry out. In both cases, open joints in the cladding can leave insulation exposed. RainBarrier® Dark™ includes a bonded dark veil that blends into shadowed gaps created by open joints while maintaining fire resistance, moisture management, and thermal performance. This faced mineral wool insulation conceals exposed areas while remaining non-combustible, vapor permeable, and easy to cut and install.

Thermafiber® RainBarrier® Dark™ is faced mineral wool insulation used in exterior commercial wall systems, such as those found in mid- to high-rise offices, universities, and cultural buildings, where the insulation may be visible behind open-joint cladding. A black fiberglass veil is bonded to the surface of the mineral wool to create a dark, uniform appearance behind panel gaps. These black faced insulation products deliver the same continuous insulation performance as other Thermafiber® products, while eliminating the need for a separate masking layer to conceal the insulation.
